About the Director
Laura I. Maniglia is a professional educator with more than four decades of experience. In addition to owning and operating the learning center, she is now a national trainer for Time to Teach!, a division of the Center for Teacher Effectiveness. She offers professional development to school personnel. She holds a BA summa cum laude in English, a Masters degree in American & British Literature, and a Sixth Year in Administration & Supervision. She has served as a high school English teacher in the tri-state region in parochial and public schools. In addition, she was an Adjunct Writing Instructor at Quinnipiac University for 10 years. She served as an assistant principal in several Connecticut middle and high schools. She was a principal of a public middle school before she established Handle Associates in 1995. Mrs. Maniglia is the author of the Handle Associates Writing Skills Workbook, which has been used in secondary schools across the country. She is a national trainer for Time to Teach! In addition, she has conducted teacher workshops on educational topics throughout Connecticut. Topics include (but are not restricted to): teaching strategies, English language content areas, Common Core language arts standards, and classroom management. She has offered presentations for parents and students at libraries, schools, and other organizations. She writes regularly about a variety of educational topics and submits her blog to: Patch.com/Branford. Mrs. Maniglia has volunteered her teaching expertise at St. Martin de Porres Academy in New Haven. Each fall she traveled to St. Martin’s for a special course to prepare eighth graders for the Secondary School Admission Test, COOP, or HSPT exams.
